I'm experimenting...
Just did this relatively large acrylic (over 50" length) on unprimed, unstretched canvas. I'm sort of regretting not stretching it, but I had wanted to see if it was easier to work some embroidery over unstretched canvas... I'm seeing now that it won't. I'm a little worried how it will affect the paint to stretch it, and am scared I won't be able to line everything up properly. Oops.
So the next step is to let it dry (I painted using a lot of water- it's going to take awhile to dry- so far it's been sitting 6 hours and it's still as wet as it was when I painted it!), stretch it, and then embroider it.
I felt a huge need to get back to painting after the months of only embroidering (and actually, it's been years since I've done any substantial painting), but look forward to the next step of embroidering across the painted canvas. I have a whole series in mind, with some very complicated figurative drawings embroidered across these more ephemeral-ish paintings...
I'll keep you posted!
