Embroidering at Madewell

This is my first post in over a week!! I'd apologize, but not only have I been extremely busy, but I've been totally out of commission with the flu. I'm still not 100%, but at least I'm no longer shaking with fever...

This past Sunday I embroidered at my second event at the Greenwich, CT Madewell store, and tonight, at the brand's store in Soho.

Madewell was launched a few years ago by J-Crew. It's full of slightly more youthful, hipper clothing, scarves and shoes. They have a jeans' 'bar' where their associates assist in helping customers find the perfect fit. The store in Soho is located at the corner of Broadway and Broome.

The event, called 'Denim After Dark', falls on the first Thursday of every month. Free cocktails, DJ, 20-50% off jeans, and, the best part...

Free embroidery!!

MY free embroidery!!!

A sample pair I embroidered for the Soho store.

A sample I embroidered for the Greenwich store.

Another sample for the Soho store. Many of the things people asked for were initials, little hearts, stars... All of it very cutesy and simple. A far cry from much of the other work I'm doing! People seemed pretty happy with my work, despite this foray into unfamiliar design waters! I even needed to bring home a bag of work I wasn't able to finish at the event. Up to this point, the feedback has been great- the designs, a mixture of my own little designs and some very easy Sublime Stitching patterns, seems like the perfect combination (for those of you who might want to pick up embroidery, Sublime Stitching patterns are a good way to start!).

(In this picture I look sort of like I've been hit by a truck... Not far from the truth after this week of flu-hell!! Feverish, shiny face? Check! Bad hair? Check! Bags under the eyes? Check!)

I'm going to try to finish up the six pairs of jeans I brought home in the morning, and then get to work finishing the canvases for my show that opens next week at Spacecraft. The flu set me back a bit, so I'm going to have to work really hard this week to get everything completed!

Ahhhhhh!!!!

Please, wish me luck!
